But\u00a0after you hit the publish button, no one is sharing or linking to it!<\/p>\n<p>Now, you know that in order to gain traction, you need to promote the content. Read on!<\/p>\n<h2><b>Step 1: Compile your prospect list<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The concept of this strategy is very simple: People who\u2019ve shared content similar to your post are likely to share your content as well (assuming it&#8217;s good). So in this step, we\u2019re going to compile a list of people to contact once your post is live.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Using BuzzSumo<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/buzzsumo.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BuzzSumo<\/a> is a great tool for doing content research and finding the right people to promote your content. However, in order to use the feature needed to perform this specific outreach, you\u2019ll need to upgrade to the $99\/month Pro plan. Don\u2019t worry though, there\u2019s a free alternative in the next section.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019re logged in to BuzzSumo, enter the URL of a blog post that\u2019s similar to yours. In my case, I was writing an article on <a href=\"https:\/\/snappa.com\/blog\/resource-page-link-building\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">how to build backlinks from resource pages<\/a>. These stats can help you filter which people are worth reaching out to and which ones are most likely to answer your email.<\/p>\n<p>As you go through this list, start adding people to your spreadsheet.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have a list of names, you\u2019ll need to find their email. Most of the time, they will list a website in their twitter profile so that\u2019s the first place to look. If you have a website domain but you can\u2019t find their email, you can use a tool like <a href=\"https:\/\/emailhunter.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Email Hunter<\/a> to find it.<\/p>\n<p>Another great tool is <a href=\"https:\/\/rapportive.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rapportive<\/a>. When you have Rapportive installed, it will display the person\u2019s information in your Gmail sidebar so you can verify whether or not you have the right email address. Using my name as an example, you could try:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>christopher@snappa.com<\/li>\n<li>christopher.gimmer@snappa.com<\/li>\n<li>cgimmer@snappa.com<\/li>\n<li>christophergimmer@snappa.com<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you really want automate this process, you can use a paid tool like <a href=\"http:\/\/sellhack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SellHack<\/a> which basically does all of this work for you.<\/p>\n<p>One more tool worth mentioning would be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voilanorbert.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/www.voilanorbert.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1535464165977000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHvdfhDLc7FpARkPhSXGEMPwoJPCQ\">Voila Norbert<\/a>. It\u00a0was elected the most accurate email finding tool out there according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/find-email-address\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/find-email-address\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1535464165977000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFwq_XSLFFGJ41JG3IWl61bogisKw\">ahrefs<\/a>. Voila Norbert&#8217;s email enrichment feature can\u00a0give you incredibly valuable data points for your email list.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3780\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.snappa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Voila-Norbert-1.jpg\" alt=\"voila norbert email outreach\" width=\"900\" height=\"963\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.snappa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Voila-Norbert-1.jpg 900w, https:\/\/blog.snappa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Voila-Norbert-1-280x300.jpg 280w, https:\/\/blog.snappa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Voila-Norbert-1-768x822.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/>\n<h3><b>Using Twitter<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have the budget for a paid tool like BuzzSumo, you can still use this same technique using Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>First, head over to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search-advanced\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter Advanced Search<\/a>. As a result, you may come across many duplicate listings and it just becomes more difficult to go through. But then again, it\u2019s free!<\/p>\n<h2><b>Step 2: Performing the outreach<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve compiled your list of prospects, it\u2019s time to do the outreach.\u00a0For this step, there&#8217;s two different methods you can use.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Method 1: Pre-Outreach<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Using this outreach method, you\u2019re going to reach out to your prospect <em><b>before<\/b><\/em> the post actually goes live.<\/p>\n<p>The idea behind this method is to disarm the prospect by simply asking if he\u2019d be interested in the post first. If the prospect replies back saying yes, they\u2019re much more likely to end up sharing the post. This is an example of the commitment principle of psychology.<\/p>\n<p>When using this method, you can use a script like this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Hey [name],<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I recently came across a post you shared about [topic] on [blog]. Definitely some great tips in there! I personally use the [x] strategy all the time. <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I wanted to reach out because I\u2019m working on a post about [similar topic] and since you\u2019re a fan of [topic], I thought you might like it.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Want a heads up when it goes live?<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Cheers,<br \/>\nChristopher <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If they reply back saying they\u2019d like to see the post, simply email them back with the link when it goes live.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Method 2: Post Outreach<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Using this method, you\u2019re going to reach out to your prospects <strong><i>after<\/i><\/strong> you\u2019ve published the piece of content.<\/p>\n<p>I like using this method for two reasons.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It\u2019s less work for the other person. Using the pre-outreach method, they have to reply to your email which is an extra step. For a busy person, this could be a deal breaker.<\/li>\n<li>It gives you some time to rack up some social shares thus improving the social proof of your article<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>When using this method, you can use a script like this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Hey [name]<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I recently came across a post you shared about [topic] on [blog]. Definitely some great tips in there! I personally use the [x] strategy all the time. <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>I wanted to reach out because I recently published an in-depth article on [similar topic]. Since you&#8217;re a fan of [x], thought you might like it.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Here&#8217;s the link if you want to check it out:<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>[Link]<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Feel free to share it if you find it helpful.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Cheers,<br \/>\nChristopher <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The key here is not to be pushy!<\/p>\n<h2><b>Step 3: Tracking the results <\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Although not absolutely necessary, I highly recommend tracking your results, at least in the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>By tracking your results, you\u2019ll be able to measure the effectiveness of your outreach campaigns and determine whether it makes sense to scale them. Obviously, when you make your outreach emails as targeted as possible (as I\u2019ve done using this strategy), your chances of success are much higher than a spray and pray\u00a0approach.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the success, it&#8217;s still a numbers game. So if you want to accumulate a lot of shares using this strategy, you will need to send a lot of emails as well. A great way to scale this strategy is to use a virtual assistant to help you compile your prospect list so you just need to spend a few minutes to send out the emails.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Conclusion<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have a big email list and you\u2019re not considered a thought leader in your industry, you\u2019re going to have to work hard to promote your content.<\/p>\n<p>This outreach strategy should significantly improve your results and\u00a0add some predictability to your share count.<\/p>\n<p>Have you had success using this type of outreach?
